MELTING LENSES
A man from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, had worked as a welder for most of his
life, but had been recently been experiencing headaches and blurred vision. On
his wife's advice, he went to the opticians for an eye test and was told he was
short-sighted. He told the optician he didn't want to wear glasses, so the optician
prescribed him some contact lenses. Wearing his contact lenses, the man was delighted
to find he could see things in detail and experienced a new lease of life. However,
one day he was doing a particularly tricky piece of welding and removed his goggles
so he could see better. Unfortunately, the welding generated so much heat, it
caused his contact lenses to fuse to his cornea.
