OOPS!
One of the unspoken fears felt by everyone who works in the emergency services
is the thought that one day they will arrive at an incident to discover that a
loved one is the victim. It is very rarely the case, however, that the emergency
services are responsible for the accident in the first place. One such incident
occurred when the fire brigade was called out to a fire at a large shop. A large
crowd gathered to watch the fire crew extinguish the flames, and even took the
trouble to applaud their fine efforts. Having packed away their hoses, the crew
jumped back into the fire engine and reversed out on to the street, running over
the drivers wife as they did so. The poor woman had been watching her husband
at work but had not wanted to put him off by making her presence known. As she
stood gripped with awe and wonder at her husband s brave efforts he ran her over.
