TOTAL IGNORANCE

A French man had just moved into an apartment on the outskirts of Paris. The phone hadn't been connected yet, so he went to a telephone box around the corner to phone his girlfriend and invite her round to his new flat. As he was chatting to his girlfriend, a man, looking as if he'd been sleeping on the streets for years, started banging on the telephone box. The man turned his back, ignored the tramp and continued talking to his girlfriend. Finally, the tramp screamed that it was an emergency and continued banging until the man relented, finished the conversation and hung up. Before he could admonish him, the tramp pushed past to use the phone. The man shrugged and returned to his apartment, but on turning the corner, realised why the tramp was making such a fuss - his apartment was on fire!
