UPHILL STRUGGLE

A man was driving round the hilly streets of San Francisco on the way to a job interview, but he had got hopelessly lost and was already quite late. Passing a telephone box, he stopped the car and telephoned the company he had the interview with. As he was explaining his predicament to the secretary, he realised he'd forgotten to put his handbrake on and was shocked to see his car rolling down the hill towards him. Before he could do anything, the car had rammed into the telephone box, jamming him inside. Hearing him cursing, the sensitive secretary must have taken it personally and slammed the phone down on him. He waved to passers-by, but they just waved back. It wasn't until an hour later that it occurred to him to use the phone to contact the emergency services which promptly rescued him. Afterwards the man developed a sudden loathing for hills and left San Francisco for the much flatter San Diego.
