HOMESICK CAT

The old man from Hanover, Germany, had put up with his temperamental cat for long enough. He was fed up with her scratching all the furniture and peeing all over the place, so he gave her to a friend, who lived on the other side of town, with the excuse that he was getting too old to look after her. A week later, on a particularly harsh winter's day, the old man returned home from shopping and was surprised to see the cat shivering on his doorstep. Moved by the fact the cat had found her way back from the other side of town in such cold weather, the man took the cat inside and gave her plenty of loving attention. The next day, however, he ran into another friend, who asked him if he had found his cat. The old man said he had and asked what the other man knew about it. The friend replied, "Oh, well, I was on the other side of town, when I recognised your cat in the road, so although she was hissing and struggling all the way, I drove her home and left her on your doorstep."
