FINGER FOUND
When a thief broke into a house in the middle of the night, he disturbed its
occupants by smashing a window as he climbed in. Soon lights began to come on
and he heard the noises of the householders upstairs. In his rush to escape, he
left rather more than a few fingerprints behind. As he climbed back out though
the broken window, he managed to slice his finger off, leaving it behind as evidence.
After the police arrived they put out an appeal on local radio, requesting that
the burglar go to the local hospital where surgeons were waiting to sew his finger
back on. Faced with the prospect of a short prison term or the rest of his life
being deficient in the digit department, the man had little choice but to turn
up at the hospital and get stitched up in every respect.
