HALLUCINATIONS?

A highway patrol police officer was close to signing himself into a mental institution after a series of freak readings on his speed detector. For several weeks he had been on the night shift, parking in his usual concealed spot off the main road. Several times he had just been drifting off to sleep to be suddenly woken up by his detector beeping wildly and displaying speeds of over 120 mph. Following in hot pursuit, however, the officer was mystified when he couldn't see any vehicles on the road at all. Communications with his colleague a few miles down the road revealed nothing further. After a few nights of high readings from seemingly invisible vehicles, he began to think he was losing his mind. The mystery was solved a few nights later though, when a car was found smashed by the side of the road. The dead driver was wearing infrared night-vision goggles and several kilos of cocaine were found in the panels of the car. The officer realised he wasn't mad after all and that his nightly apparitions were actually the drug-trafficker speeding by him with his lights off and using infrared goggles to see.
