LETTER OF THANKS
The Japanese are well known for their politeness but this example of gratitude
is more mocking than respectful. Two weeks after the biggest bank robbery in Japan's
history, the bank manager received a letter postmarked Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The letter had been typewritten and read: "Thank you so much for the bonus. It
may interest you to know that rather than the 50.5 million yen stated in newspapers,
the amount was in fact 74.6 million yen." The criminals are presumably still living
it up in South America.
