RADIOACTIVE
Police in Auckland were deeply alarmed to discover that someone had broken
into the National Radiation Laboratory and stolen a container of radioactive material
that just happened to be lying around. The radioactive material was - and still
is - lethal, and at first, police were concerned that the break-in might have
been the work of terrorists. They took a different view, however, when they were
informed that the radioactive material was being stored in a lead container weighing
over 500 pounds. From that moment on they went searching the local scrap yards
trying to find someone who had brought in a large quantity of dodgy lead, but
to no avail. Eventually, they received a phone call from the mother of a couple
of small boys who said that she had found her sons trying to make lead weights
for fishing from a large block that had been dumped in her garden at some time
in the night.
