CHOKING WORLD WIDE

In England, the National No Smoking Day can provide people with an excuse to act in outrageous ways for instance, dousing anyone caught smoking with a bucket of cold water. In Argentina, things have been known to become even more extreme. A masked man calling himself The Big Smoke chose No Smoking Day to terrorise smokers in Buenos Aires by forcing anyone he caught smoking, at gunpoint, to eat the whole pack of cigarettes. As each victim chewed and gagged on a mouthful of tobacco The Big Smoke took the opportunity to preach about the harm smoking can do and the dangers of passive smoking. Although some victims said they would give up smoking, most appeared to be desperate for a smoke after their ordeal. Rumours that The Big Smoke was employed by the government have been consistently denied by officials.
