COCK UP
I times were bad and the manager of a sweet factory that supplied rock candy
to shops all over England had been advised to lay off staff. First to go, so far
as the manager was concerned, would be a young lad who was always rude and usually
had a lazy approach to his work. The manager was surprised when, instead of cursing
him as expected, the lad worked his day's notice and departed with a warm farewell.
A few days later, everything became clear when he received an angry phone call
from a big customer in Brighton. The customer was fuming mat a consignment of
rock, which was supposed to read "Brighton Rock" instead read "Brighton Cock!"
