COMIC CRAZY
A young boy from Manchester, England, went travelling for a year after finishing
his last year of school. After many exciting adventures, he returned home. He
was disconcerted to find that his room had been rented out to a university student
and all his belongings had been stored in the attic. He asked his mother about
his collection of comics, which were his pride and joy and the result of countless
years of time-consuming research. His mother turned to him and remarked casually,
"Oh, those childish things, I threw them out with all those old stamps and records."
When sentencing the boy, the judge stated that although he could understand the
boy's anger at his mother's disregard for his possessions, even if they were valued
at over £50,000, he could not condone killing her by forcing her to eat her recipe
collection.
