CRASHING DOWN
Two British businessmen went to Moscow to finalise a building contract for
their company. The men had been forewarned that their Russian counterparts would
do anything to jeopardise the deal, so the men were on their guard. Having watched
too many James Bond spy films, they set about searching their hotel room for bugs.
One man came across a curious-looking bulge in the carpet and on lifting it, discovered
a strange box with four large screws attaching it to the floor. Thinking it must
be a hi-tech bug, the two men spent a good hour removing the screws. After finally
removing the last screw, they were bemused to find that the box was completely
empty. The men decided that they were being somewhat overzealous and they went
to the hotel bar for a quick drink before retiring for the night. On entering
the bar, however, they were greeted by a scene reminiscent of the London Blitz.
It turns out that a huge chandelier hanging in the centre of the ceiling had suddenly
crashed down, smashing tables and chairs and narrowly missing the shocked patrons.
The men put two and two together, made a hasty retreat, went back to their room
to pick up their bags and checked out.
