ENGAGEMENT

A young man, wanting to propose to his girlfriend, needed a romantic setting for the purpose. Looking in the local newspaper, he came across an advertisement for a restaurant which seemed ideal. The advert read: romantic restaurant with panoramic views of countryside and an atmosphere that will create an explosive reaction for lovers. The man collected his girlfriend the next evening and they drove out to the exclusive restaurant. On parking the car and approaching the restaurant, the young man was devastated to find a mass of disgruntled people leaving. On entering, he saw the reason why: the panoramic view included a nuclear power station, and all over the walls were models of weapons of mass destruction. Realising that this particular restaurant was perhaps not the ideal place to propose marriage, he took his girlfriend home, got a Chinese takeaway, and later that night proposed in the less explosive atmosphere of his bedroom.
