EXTENDED JOURNEY
A man from the south of England had too many drinks in a bar on the way home
from work one day and lost track of the time. Fortunately he just managed to catch
what he thought was the last train of the day out of London to his home town of
Basingstoke. However, he soon found out that while the train he had boarded passed
through Basingstoke, it didn't stop at Basingstoke. He had climbed on an express
train that went straight on to Southampton. He decided that if the train slowed
down enough at Basingstoke, he would probably be able to jump off. The train did
slow down at the station, and the unlucky traveller grabbed his bag, jumped on
to the platform and then began running alongside the train to reduce his speed.
As the next coach passed him, he was suddenly yanked back onto the train by another
man who said: "Lucky I saw you running. Didn't you know this train never stops
here?"
