FREE PAY OFF

A top executive of a big American management consultant company entered a lift to find a man openly smoking. The executive told the man that smoking was not permitted anywhere in the building and instructed him to extinguish his cigarette immediately. Instead of doing anything, the smoker just shrugged, mentioned that there were no ashtrays and continued smoking. Furious, the executive grabbed the man's cigarette, threw it on the lift floor and stamped it out with his shoe, only to see the man casually light another one and continue smoking. Incensed, the executive asked the man what his monthly salary was. The man replied: "About £700." The executive counted out £700 and handed it to the man: "There's a month's salary. Consider yourself sacked and dismissed with immediate effect." The man stepped out of the lift, smiled and said: "Hey, thanks. Actually, I don't work for you, I just came in to use the bathroom."
