HEAVY BREATHING
A young woman from Cologne, Germany, was babysitting for a wealthy family
one Friday night. She had just put the two-year-old son to bed upstairs when the
phone rang. The woman answered the phone to hear a man breathing heavily. She
slammed down the phone, but the phone rang again. A man on the phone told the
young woman what he was going to do to the child, asleep in his bed, and then
how he was going to kill her. The young woman, realising the man must be watching
the house if he knew about the child, hung up the phone and immediately rang the
police and explained what had happened. The police told her to stay calm and make
sure that all the windows and doors were locked and that they would send a police
car to the house and also trace the phone calls. After she put the phone down,
she secured all the doors and windows, when die phone rang again. The young woman
answered and it was the man again, repeating what he said before, but with more
elaboration. Suddenly, the policeman interrupted and shouted down the phone, "Get
out of there. He's on the extension upstairs." But it was too late.
