POPEYE

A 13-year-old boy from Warsaw, Poland, was overjoyed when his father brought home a second-hand television set. He would come home from school and watch cartoons for hours. The boy was particularly taken by the cartoon "Popeye" and demanded that his mother cooked spinach for him every night, so that he would be big and strong like Popeye. Of course, the mother was delighted that her son would suddenly want to eat such a healthy diet. This went on for weeks, but the boy was disappointed to find that the spinach had no effect on his stature. Deciding that he obviously wasn't eating enough, he opened all the cans of spinach in the kitchen cupboard and consumed the lot. The boy later died in hospital in a rare case of spinach poisoning.
