THE PUSH
An Palmerston North, New Zealand, a man had a very old car that was always
breaking down and constantly needed to be push-started. However, the man loved
the car and refused to trade it in for a new one. One day, he was in town and,
as usual, the car stalled. He waved down a passing motorist and asked the driver,
a teenager, if he would be prepared to push-start the old car with the front end
of his. The teenager said that he would be happy to. The man warned the teenager
that, as the old car had an automatic transmission, he would need to get up to
at least 35 mph or it wouldn't work. Unfortunately, the teenager took the man
literally and before the man knew it, the teenager had reversed his car half a
block away and accelerated to 35 mph as he drove towards him. His clapped out
motor was a write-off and the man had to walk home.
