VANILLA
A woman from Rochester, Michigan, took her car to the garage and told the
mechanic that it was behaving strangely. She explained that every time she went
to the local grocery shop to buy vanilla ice cream, the car would fail to start
on her return. She continued that if she bought any other flavour, the car started
fine. The mechanic thought the woman must be mad, but he agreed to try to repair
the car. However, on examining the engine, he could find nothing wrong, so he
decided to go buy some ice cream himself to test the woman's story. The mechanic
drove the car to the grocery shop and bought a large tub of vanilla ice cream.
Like the woman had told him, the car refused to start. Eventually, the mechanic
worked out that the grocery shop took longer to get vanilla ice cream than any
other flavour because it was the only one that wasn't pre-packed. It seemed the
car didn't start because it remained idle for the amount of time it took to buy
vanilla ice cream.
